#2 : The Fixionist

1.For the people who dont know who you are, who are you, where are you from ?

I’m a producer/remixer from the UK who’s had a love for music for as long as I can remember. My passion is for electronic music, whatever shape or form that may come in. I used to ride BMX freestyle as a kid back in the 80’s and always rode to the old Street Sounds albums, I think that’s where the love for breakbeat stems from…

2.Tell us a bit about how you got involved within the Break Wind Family…………..

Ah, great question. I used to work for a big company way back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Not too sure how I met them all but I ended up getting a band together with 3 guys, Steve “Fingers” Filbert, Ian “Ebobs” Jones and Dean “Bobalino” Feeley. We started a kinda breaks/rock hybrid band called Axcess. That was around 97/98. Mad times! Loaded Ebobs flat up with all our hardware in his front room and put a whole load of tracks together….
Years later I started producing/remixing for various bands in different genres but fancied doing something for myself again. Boba had started his Breakwind label and invited me to get involved…

3.How long have you been making music and what started your journey into the world of Breakbeat?

Well I’ve been making music since I was still back in school, ‘84/85ish… Bought a little Casio sampling keyboard and never looked back. The real love of breakbeat really goes way back to the Street Sounds albums and before that Kraftwerk. Listen to Tour de France and hear the connection.

4.Tell us a bit about yourself outside of music, hobbies, Job, things you do when not making music?

Well I have a family, that keeps me busy! Love spending time with the fam, just doing the day to day stuff. I still love bikes, so much so I collected old vintage BMX frames for a while. Still have a couple tucked away. I work in IT, training people in the use of computer systems.

5.What is in store for the future for you within music?

Well I’ve just committed to start work on an album for a band. That’s probably gonna take the next 6 months up. Also I’ve been working on more tracks for Breakwind. I recently started working with a great vocalist from the US, so hoping that will lead onto more things. I’d love to do a full album of my own…

6.What toys do you have in the studio and what is your weapon of Choice?

For ages I’ve been using Reason to put stuff together. Then as I started working with bands I started working also with Logic Pro, rewiring Reason through the Logic mixer.
In the last year though I’ve really got into analogue hardware. I’ve gone a bit crazy and invested in a Moog Slim Phatty, Arturia Minibrute, Korg MS20 Mini and Monotribe, a Retrowave monosynth and a Novation Super Bass Station. I’m gonna grab a Bass Station 2 soon and I’ve got a Korg Volca Bass on pre order, they look like awesome fun! I always dive back to Reason though to get things started, the latest version, in my opinion is the best piece of software out there.

7.Who are your musical influences of past and who are you excited about in the present?

Past influences? Well I mentioned Kraftwerk and the Streetsounds stuff from waaaaay back… But things like early Prince I Love! BT, Propellerheads really made an impression. Today it’s just so great as there’s always something new coming out, although there is a down side I think as nothing hangs around long enough to make a lasting impression. A classic seems to be something that was released 6 months ago!!! LOL

8.Name Three breakbeat tunes that is blowing you away at the moment?

Pho Li Ho Mist
One False Move
My next track

9.You can take three tracks (not albums) onto your desert island, what would they be?

Prince – DMSR
BT – Hip Hop Phenomenon
Frank Sinatra – I’ve Got you Under my Skin

10.Which Star Wars Character are you most like and why?

Bossk. I’m a moody bastard with bad toe nails…. 😉
